TO: All Current 4th, 5th and 6th Grade Boys
FROM: GENESEO YOUTH FOOTBALL, INC.
Geneseo Youth Football started over 65 years ago to introduce football to boys in the 5th through 7th grades. The program is self‑supporting through donations from area businesses, foundations and other individuals in our community. At this time, we are preparing and planning our 2024 fall season.
In order to plan for the total number of teams and players per team, we ask you to register now using the online registration using this link, https://forms.gle/BAKcRKSWtghhs23a8. There is no cost to register and the only cost to play is $1 for the mouthguard. We would appreciate you completing the registration process by June 1, 2024.
We have outlined answers to some questions you might have on the next attachment as well as some dates for the upcoming season. This should help clarify when things happen and how the league operates.
For all first year players, regardless of grade, tryouts are required. Each tryout session will last approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on numbers, for all coaches to see how each player performs in a series of drills. Plastic/molded cleats are recommended but not required. Players only need to attend one of the tryout days.
We look forward to another successful football season and watching your player grow!
Thank you.

Geneseo Youth Football
"The objective of Geneseo Youth Football is to inspire boys to practice the ideals of sportsmanship and physical fitness, to teach them good habits of fellowship with other boys, to respect adults, and to develop the ability to take adversity without complaint."
Established in 1958, the program has been developing youngsters since. The program teaches them football fundamentals, sportsmanship, citizenship and a desire to succeed. Winning is not the only measure of success. "It is also to be noted that many things bring about winning such as material, coaching, hard work and luck or the breaks of the game".
Geneseo Youth Football has partnered with USA football head's up program to train coaches on the fundamentals to conduct a safe game. GYF also teaches the basics of the Geneseo program to help prepare them for higher level competition.
Read about the Story of Geneseo Youth Football (1958-1967) written by long-time football coach, Elmer Reedy. Coach Reedy’s manuscript was completed as part of his Master’s Degree program while at Illinois State University in 1968. This paper documents a unique youth football program started in Geneseo, IL that remains strong today and is a model many villages, towns and cities can follow.
